Gill Meningen from Coveney in Ely is calling all Cambridgeshire animal lovers to join her at Cambridge University’s Department of Veterinary medicine on 11 July 2015, where the Brooke is launching its first animal welfare roadshow.

On 25 April a huge 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. The government and charities worldwide rallied to help affected communities. However, there were also 1,650 injured, trapped and terrified horses, mules and donkeys who had been working carrying bricks for their owners.

Every day, in some of the world’s poorest communities, there are 100 million working donkeys and horses who carry bricks, concrete, heavy stones and other extremely heavy material in temperatures of up to 60 degrees centigrade (next to brick kilns) for their owners to make a living. The Brooke estimates these hard working animals are burning over 53,000 calories a day.
