On February 2 Brooke hosted their #ProudToBeBrooke Supporter Day, an event inviting the charity’s friends and ambassadors to share in our recent success and hear about our upcoming plans to help find solutions to major issues facing donkeys, horses and mules.
Thanks to funding from the Petplan Charitable Trust, we developed a new Equine Welfare Assessment application for Android tablets. The app has been designed to Standardised Equine Based Welfare Assessment Tool (SEBWAT) to conduct assessments on animals, evaluate, and monitor equine welfare.
In Ethiopia’s Halaba district, painful and unnecessary wounds caused by ill-fitting or poorly designed bits are common in the gharry horses. These horses pull gharries - carts or carriages used to transport people or goods.
In January 2016, animal health centres in Kofele Woreda, Ethiopia were destroyed during local protests. With the help of Brooke staff, the local community and government, animal health care services are resuming.
