Brooke Raises £16,000 for Guatemala Emergency Fund

Brooke and Brooke USA have raised almost £16,000 to help horses, donkeys and mules, their owners and families who are suffering from one of the worst natural disasters Guatemala has ever seen.

Horses in the "hot zone"

Thanks to our wonderful supporters in the UK and USA, we’ve generated an Emergency Fund of almost £16,000 for Guatemala’s equines and the families that depend on them following June’s devastating Fuego volcano eruptions. This total includes one substantial donation made to our sister organisation Brooke USA who have raised a total of $15,000 for Guatemala.

Brooke, through our partner ESAP, have worked in Guatemala to help working horses, donkeys and mules since 2006 and our team is currently on the ground working tirelessly. The Emergency Fund enables our partner ESAP to buy, transport and distribute much needed food, water and first aid for working horses, donkey and mules, and other survivors of the Guatemala volcanic eruptions. Initial scoping by ESAP indicates that the money raised will cover all these emergency costs, and we have therefore closed Brooke’s emergency appeal.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated – in just under a week we have had a huge response from concerned animal lovers who wanted ESAP to make a difference in this time of huge uncertainty for the people and working equines in Guatemala.

We will continue to bring you updates on the situation via our Facebook page as and when we receive them from our colleagues in Guatemala.
