Treasurer and Trustees

Brooke is dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, mules and donkeys and the poor communities in which they serve.

With around 500 staff in Brooke programmes across the globe and an income of over £21m, Brooke helps animals and people. Working equines are the engines that power the developing world as they transport people, produce, food, water and building materials. Millions suffer due to the scale of their workloads and inadequate care and services. Our charitable activities, therefore, not only improve the lives of more than 2 million animals, they also enhance the livelihoods of owners and their families.

We are now seeking a new treasurer and two trustees. These roles are an opportunity to get a board level insight into a professionally run and growing charity, share responsibility for its good governance and contribute to its future direction. You will possess good strategic vision, business sense and a passion for our work supporting working equines and their owners and families around the world. In addition, you will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance – to serve as Treasurer
  • Fundraising
  • Digital Technology
  • Veterinary

Chair

Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter, previously Chief Executive of the Army Benevolent Fund was appointed to the Board in 2013. After a highly successful period at the helm, he will retire in mid-2020. We are seeking a successor to build on his good work and join an impressive group of trustees to help steer an organisation that continues to grow in income, impact and influence.

You will bring strategic insight, the passion to cultivate excellence and a natural ability to build strong relationships. You will take the lead responsibility for our good governance by galvanising our strong and united Board who support the commercially minded and professional leadership with ambition and diverse expertise. You will also have a real interest in working equines and the poor communities they serve.

Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator (part-time)

Brooke is looking ahead to the development of an integrated global learning platform to help support the delivery of its global strategy over the next four years. As an international charity working to make the greatest impact for vulnerable working equines in 10 countries across Asia, Africa and Central America, we are committed to creating the most cost effective and technologically imaginative ways of increasing the capacity and capability of staff, partner organisations and the communities we work in to remain future oriented and relevant. We have achieved a lot so far in our international Moodle based veterinary education programmes but we now need to build an organisational learning framework for our global LMS. To prepare us for this new phase, we are now looking for a part-time LMS Administrator to work with us over the next six months on a fixed term contract. This will be for three days a week to start as soon as possible and will include the following duties;  

  • Providing operational support for Brooke’s Totara Learning Management System.
  • Developing a strong relationship with key stakeholders.
  • Managing the LMS, troubleshoot and provide clear timely and accurate advice to its users.
  • Investigate and develop multi-lingual features of the current LMS.
  • Manage version changes and user acceptance testing.

Legacy Manager

We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Legacy team at Brooke. You will play a pivotal role in managing and delivering the legacy strategy for Brooke.

The Legacy team is responsible for stewarding legacy pledges and administering bequests to the organisation which currently delivers £11m net. The team has a new strategy which looks to drive legacy growth in income over the next two years and we’re looking for dynamic hands on manager to take the programme to the next level, especially in marketing legacies to internal and external audiences.

We are looking for a strong legacy expert with extensive experience in legacy marketing, stewardship, and administration. You must have a proven track record in building marketing and stewardship programmes with direct personal experience in donor stewardship.
