What Padmapriya brings to Brooke

As the Chief Executive of Sanitation First, Padmapriya has transformed the organisation into a trusted and recognised brand.

She is also the founder of Aalayam Kanden Trust, a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness about lesser-known heritage sites in India.

Padmapriya has been honored with multiple awards, including the Rotary Vocational Service Excellence Award (2014) and the Imagine Award for Excellence in WASH Leadership (2023).

She was also named among the Top Women Leaders of Tamil Nadu by the World Women Congress in 2022 and recognised as one of the City's Green Champions by Big FM.

On her role at Brooke, Padmapriya explains, "it is still early days" but describes being a regular at meetings, reading huge volumes of papers, supporting with interviews and participating in governance committee meetings.

Why support donkeys, horses and mules?

Describing her personal reasons for dedicating time to supporting horses, donkeys and mules, Padmapriya jokes that she appreciates that the animals "don't do what they are asked to do by choice", and recalls her childhood in India.

Having grown up in the hilly terrains and military bases of India, seeing horses and mules working for their own survival, as well as those of their humans, has always been something close to my heart.

"More and more people are getting involved in animal welfare and this needs to extend beyond pets or wild animals, to working animals, who are truly the vulnerable and underprivileged.

"While I have no expertise in their care and support, I feel connected to their cause and of those communities that are dependent on them," she adds.

Why Brooke?

On her decision to join Brooke as a trustee, Padmapriya explains: "As a development sector professional by choice, it is a duty to give back to a deserving cause and organisation.

I see Brooke as a highly professional, yet compassionate, organisation that is leading the way in working animal welfare.
