15-year-old raises £1.5k for Brooke in Senegal half marathon

Julien Beck, attending Sevenoaks School in Kent, completed the Dakar Half Marathon on 23 February 2026, raising £1,541 for Brooke.

Julien said: “I’ve been fortunate to live in different countries and see some of the challenges of caring for working animals, when it’s difficult even to put food on the table.

"I’m an avid rider and today my family cares for horses and donkeys including some that have spent their lives working.

“It was therefore incredible to find Brooke, allowing me to support such an amazing charity that is devoted to such an honourable cause about a topic that I hold close to my heart."

Every effort can help - at least to raise awareness if not funds - and we owe it to ourselves as well as each other to put action to our words.

In April 2026, 10 members of The Worshipful Company of Farriers will run the London Landmarks Half Marathon, on behalf of Brooke.

Staff from Brooke in East Africa will also participate in their own marathon in Kenya, at the same time as the official London Marathon 2026, receiving the same finishers medal and T-shirt.
