What happens when you text a ‘keyword' to a shortcode number to make a donation to Brooke.

1. How you help by donating by text

You can donate to Brooke by SMS text message at any time using the relevant keyword and shortcode number below. Brooke runs several different campaigns depending on the focus of our work and people’s interests. A list of our current campaigns with relevant keyword and shortcode numbers are listed below (section 2).

    • Donations will be distributed across all of Brooke’s work where the need is greatest, helping working horses, donkeys and mules.

    3. Previous campaigns

    Some of our supporters continue to give through regular giving linked to previous SMS campaigns. These campaigns are no longer active for new-sign ups, but if you’re already making a regular donation by text, your contributions are still being processed to make a vital difference to working animals.

    4. Text to donate one-off donations

    • You'll be charged £10 or £15 depending on the keyword and shortcode number you respond to (see section 2 for full list of live campaigns).
    • You will also be charged your service provider’s rate for the cost of one standard text message.
    • Brooke will receive 100% of each donation.
    • There is no limit on the number of times you may make a donation via text but there is a daily (midnight to midnight) limit of £30 on text donations.
    • You will not be able to donate more than £30 by text from the same number on the same day (midnight to midnight), but you may still incur your standard network message charge if you try.
    • This service can only be used from a UK mobile and does not include Channel Islands or Isle of Man mobile networks.
    • If you donate using this service from a UK mobile abroad you may incur additional network charges.
    • The Brooke and our sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any telephone network or line, system, server, provider or otherwise which may result in any text not being properly received.

    5. Text to donate regular donations  

    • This relates to section 3 which covers previous campaigns some supporters continue to give through. 

    • This is a monthly charity subscription service. You’ll also be charged the cost of one standard rate text message in the first month when you sign up to the service. Your gift will be activated and your first donation of £3 will immediately be charged to your phone bill or your pay-as-you-go credit.
    • Each month after sign up you will receive a free reminder text message the day before your gift is due. If you are happy to continue giving, you don't need to do anything and your £3 donation will be charged to your mobile phone bill for that month or your pay-as-you-go credit.
    • If you would prefer not to give that month, text SKIP to 70111 within 24 hours of receiving the reminder text. We’ll send you a text back to confirm that we won’t take your £3 payment for that month. You’ll be charged for one standard rate text message.
    • If your phone is out of range or switched off, we will only receive your gift 24 hours after we know that your phone has received the reminder text message.
    • We hope that you won't cancel your gift and that you will use the SKIP system if you decide not to give in a particular month. You can, however, stop your subscription at any time by texting STOP to 70111 and you’ll be charged for one standard rate text message. We’ll send you a confirmation text to let you know it’s been done.
    • Brooke will receive 100% of each donation.
    • This service can only be used from a UK mobile and does not include Channel Islands or Isle of Man mobile networks.

    6. Can I claim Gift Aid on my donation(s)?

    • If you are a UK taxpayer, donations made via text are eligible for Gift Aid. In order for us to reclaim the tax you have already paid on your gifts and make them worth 25 percent more, at no cost to you, you can call us on 020 3012 3456 or email [email protected].

    7. Who is your information collected by and shared with?

    • The SMS service for all campaigns in the table above (section 2) is being provided for Brooke by Cymba Integrated Solutions Ltd, 107 Cheapside, London, EC2V 6DN.
    • Our SMS text donation service provider, Cymba Integrated Solutions, collects your mobile phone number and donation amount and use this data in order to process your donation, provide receipts, provide SMS text reminders (for regular donations), process refunds where necessary, manage failed donations as necessary and analyse Brooke’s income.
    • The lawful basis for collecting and processing this data on Brooke’s behalf is known as Legitimate Interest where we believe that our supporters would legitimately expect our suppliers to process their data in order to pass on the donation to Brooke and we believe this does not unreasonably impact on your rights and freedoms under General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).     8. Opting in to receive phone calls from Brooke

    • For some of our fundraising campaigns (including a number of TV adverts) we ask supporters to text a keyword to a shortcode number in order for us to call you back. When we undertake this activity, the SMS service is provided for Brooke by Cymba Integrated Solutions, 107 Cheapside, London, EC2V 6DN. This data is then passed to Entity Hub Ltd (trading as NTT), Henleaze Business Centre, 13 Harbury Road, Bristol, England, BS9 4PN. They are a carefully selected specialist charity telefundraising agency who make calls on Brooke’s behalf.
    • For some of our campaigns we state that by making a donation you are also agreeing to receive phone communications from Brooke. Where this takes place it is clearly advertised in the terms and conditions of the advertisement. We also offer an option on our adverts where you make a donation without opting in to future contact. You can change your mind at any time and please contact our Supporter Care Team if you need to let us know you no longer wish to be contacted (details below).

    9. Texted by mistake?

    • Unless otherwise stated, there will be no refunds for the cost of any SMS donation made, or for any misdialed short codes or misspelled keywords.
    • All supporters must obtain permission from the bill payer before sending a text message. If you are under 18 years old, you must have your parent or guardian's permission before making a donation and/or signing up to our campaigns.

    10. Contacting us – for queries and how to change your communication preferences

    Your support is very important to us and we would like to keep you updated about Brooke news, events, activities (including fundraising and appeals) and how else you can support us.

    11. Changes to these terms/updates

    Brooke and our suppliers reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time without notice. We will post our updated terms and conditions on this website so please check regularly for any revisions.

    12. Data Protection and Privacy Notice

    At Brooke we are dependent on the generosity of our supporters and the goodwill and trust of the public. We also depend on the goodwill and trust of all other organisations and individuals with whom we engage and work and those individuals who benefit directly or indirectly from Brooke’s work. We are, therefore, committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.

    Brooke will use the personal data you provide to administer your donation(s) and keep you updated about Brooke news, events, activities (including fundraising and appeals) and how you can support us.
