As well as directly helping almost 1.3 million animals, Brooke's skills and love for animals was taken up by 13,584 equine owning communities, 2,703 healthcare providers - including vets and farriers - and almost 7,000 brick kilns.
Positive change is happening at government level too. For instance, the Ministry of Livestock in the Punjab is replicating Brooke’s approach over the province, benefitting every animal in 27,000 communities.
Not only does this ripple effect mean that we change the lives of more working animals around the world today, we are also strengthening existing animal health services, increasing demand from owners for high quality farriery, fodder and harnesses and supporting local businesses to meet this growing demand. Crucially, it means the change is sustainable and will continue long after Brooke has moved on to work with other communities.
This all adds up to creating independent, thriving equine owning communities, making better lives for working horses, donkeys and mules and the people that depend on them every day.
For every £1 spent on fundraising, we raised £3.20, an increase of nearly 20% on last year.
Thanks to the continuing generosity of our donors, including those who remembered the world’s working horses, donkeys and mules with a gift to Brooke in their Will, we raised a total of £21.4 million in 2017/18, beating last year’s record by 10%. For every £1 spent on fundraising, we raised £3.20, an increase of nearly 20% on last year.
