Our research

Research is vital to everything Brooke does. It helps us understand the real challenges faced by working horses, donkeys and mules, as well as the communities who depend on them for their livelihoods.

What research means at Brooke

Our research explores the health, welfare and working lives of horses, donkeys and mules, alongside the social, economic and environmental factors that affect them.

By gathering reliable evidence and listening to lived experience, our research reveals what animals need, what owners can realistically achieve and what truly works in different environments.

This knowledge allows us to design solutions that are practical, effective and sustainable, not just in theory, but in the real world.

Research also strengthens our impact. It makes sure our decisions are based on reliable data and genuine insight, helps us learn and adapt, and allows us to share evidence that can influence wider policy and practice.

Through research, we make sure our work leads to lasting, meaningful improvements for animals and the people who care for them.
