Epping man in his 60s conquers the Three Peaks Challenge and raises £1,780

David from Epping has taken on one of Britain's best-known endurance challenges for Brooke.

David completed the challenge over a single weekend, spending around 18 hours actively trekking and climbing approximately 9,500 feet while walking around 22 miles across the three mountains. The challenge also involved approximately 462 miles of driving between the peaks.

As a challenge lover, David chose the Three Peaks after looking for a new target following his Macmillan Cancer Support walking marathon. He has also previously cycled across Sri Lanka to raise money for a landmine charity.

David at the Three Peaks Challenge

I enjoy having a challenge and a target to work towards. The thing I enjoyed most was the sense of achievement and realising I could actually complete something so demanding. I think many people in Britain don't realise how dependent communities in lower-income countries still are on working animals, or the difficult conditions those animals can face. I hope that greater awareness will lead to more understanding, support and funding for the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules.

The toughest part came towards the end of the challenge, when David tackled the final descent from Snowdon. After almost two days of activity and travelling, his thigh muscles were exhausted, making the descent particularly demanding. Family and friends helped keep him going, including his brother, who jokingly doubted whether David would complete the challenge and offered to sponsor him £25 for every peak he conquered.

David chose to raise money for Brooke after becoming familiar with the charity through his wife, who is a keen horse rider. He said he particularly wanted to support a cause whose aims he could wholeheartedly get behind and believes there is a need for greater public awareness of the important role working animals continue to play in communities around the world.

We are incredibly grateful to David for taking on such an ambitious challenge and choosing to support Brooke. Raising £1,780 is a fantastic achievement, and every donation helps us continue our work to improve the welfare of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world.

Working animals are a lifeline for millions of people in communities around the world, providing transport, income and a way to support their families. David's fundraising will help us work alongside the people who depend on these animals, helping them access the knowledge, services and support they need to keep their animals healthy and working well.

We'd like to congratulate David on completing the Three Peaks Challenge and thank him for helping shine a light on an issue that is so important, but often little understood here in the UK.
