August fundraiser of the month - Deborah Jackson, East Sussex
This month’s fundraiser is Deborah, 54, organiser of the Ashdown Forest Sponsored Ride, which takes place twice a year in East Sussex.
The ride, which takes place in June/July and September, has raised thousands of pounds for Brooke over the years, ensuring a better future for millions of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world.
Deborah recalls the moment she realised it had become a popular fixture on the local calendar: “A memory which stands out is seeing the huge numbers of horseboxes and trailers parked at the ride. I had driven to a crossing point high on the hill and could see the park filled with vehicles, which was amazing.”
She adds: “I choose to support Brooke as it is a charity close to the heart of most horse riders. In the UK, most horses receive a high level of care and it’s nice to raise money for less privileged equines in poorer countries.”
Money raised by amazing fundraisers like Deborah goes towards Brooke’s work across Africa, Asia and Latin America, making lasting improvements to the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people who depend on them.
