Brooke has made a powerful case to the United Nations (UN) that healthier animals means healthier people, less poverty and hunger, and a more sustainable planet.
We attended the UN’s High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) between 14 to 23 July 2025 in New York, demonstrating how investment in animal health is critical to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - in particular SDG3: Good Health and Wellbeing.
Brooke successfully advocated for language around One Health (human, environmental and animal health) to be included in the Ministerial Declaration, as an official outcome of the Forum.
Animal health has been recognised as a core driver of human health throughout the Forum.
Thanks to Brooke and partners, language around One Health was included in the Forum's official declaration.
Anna Marry, Global Head of Policy and Advocacy at Brooke, said: “This year’s HLPF has been exceptional for animals, and we are delighted that One Health is included in the Ministerial Declaration – HLPF's official outcome document.
“We are delighted to have been able to contribute to this outcome, working closely with member states and our coalition partners.”
Brooke also ensured that animal health and One Health were included in the NGO Major Group’s official position at the Forum, endorsed by thousands of global and local Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
Robust animal health systems help prevent pandemics, combat antimicrobial resistance and protect livelihoods.
Additionally, we co-led a side event with the World Federation for Animals, which focused on animal health as a driver of sustainable development.
With 75% of emerging human infections originating from animals, robust animal health systems are essential to preventing pandemics, combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and protecting livelihoods.
