Brooke to present ideas on global animal health at US conference
Brooke experts will present key findings at the 40th WVA Congress in the USA.
Brooke will showcase global efforts to improve access to essential veterinary medicines and tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR), at this year’s World Veterinary Association (WVA) Congress.
Our experts are presenting key findings on strengthening global animal health at the 40th WVA Congress, held alongside the American Veterinary Medical Association Convention, from 18 to 22 July 2025.
Our work is supported by the UK aid programme Fleming Fund’s Regional Grant, AMR and One Health East and Southern Africa.
We'll share our work as part of the 11th Global One Health Summit, including a partnership with the WVA to create the first global essential veterinary medicine list for food producing animals.
This list is the product of global veterinary expertise and collaboration, and is a critical first step in ensuring all animals around the globe have access to medicines and vaccines.
The essential medicines list includes over 300 medicines and vaccines for farmed animals.
Dr Shereene Williams, Brooke’s Senior Manager for Global Animal Health, said: "(The list) keeps them (animals) healthy and minimises their pain and suffering, and I am delighted to be promoting it as part of the WVA One Health Summit.”
The list includes over 300 medicines and vaccines for cows, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses and donkeys, highlighting which medicines are the most important in keeping animals healthy.
Dr Shereene will also be included in panel discussion about the role of vets in ensuring food security, alongside officials from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
This is a great chance to share Brooke’s work with vets from around the world.
Brooke is working with the Fleming Fund - a UK aid programme supporting up to 25 countries in tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
Dr Izzy Hocking, Brooke’s Global Animal Health Advisor, will present Brooke’s work as part of the Fleming Fund’s AMR and One Health Regional Grant - as sub-grantee of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
Dr Izzy said: “(The list) show(s) how stronger animal health systems can help tackle global issues like antimicrobial resistance - through a One Health approach.”
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)'s Fleming Fund is a UK aid programme, supporting up to 25 countries across Africa and Asia to tackle AMR - a leading contributor to deaths from infectious diseases worldwide.
The Fleming Fund invests in strengthening AMR surveillance systems through a series of national and regional grants, with fellowships managed by Mott MacDonald and global projects by DHSC.
