Expansion
We take a sustainable approach to expansion into new countries to ensure that we make a lasting impact and that working donkeys, horses and mules experience better welfare
Growing our reach
Our intention is to invest where the need is greatest and where our efforts will deliver optimum results for working horses, donkeys and mules in need. The criteria we use to select new areas allows us to make an informed and rational decision as to where best to invest charitable funds.
The criteria for expansion includes the number of animals and the suffering experienced plus the level of need and poverty. For example, we focus a significant amount of our time and attention on animals working in cities and brick kilns as they are exposed to a wide range of acute risks not found among animals in other environments.
We also consider a range of practical questions, for example, how easy it is to work in the country, the cost of working there, security, the availability of local partners and the potential for the successful expansion of our programmes over time.
Our vets, animal welfare specialists and senior programme staff are then able to make recommendations for the expansion and development of the Brooke's work.
We are currently seeking to expand our work in areas of serious need in Africa and Asia and researching the potential for extending our work in other areas, including Central and South America.
