When you travel the world as I do you realise what a huge place it is, and how privileged we are in this tiny corner of it. Through its mobile veterinary teams, the Brooke takes compassion and care to hard working horses and donkeys toiling in some of the poorest and most remote regions of the world, and equine education to their owners. In so doing, it brings them the greatest gift of all: hope.

Have a look at Lisa's new website 'lifestyle-essentials' which also features the Brooke in the essential giving section.

For most of us in Britain horses are beloved companion animals on whom we depend for our sport and recreation. But in many developing nations poor people with many mouths to feed depend on horses for their very survival. By supporting the Brooke you’ll be helping these hard working animals to a happier and healthier life, and their owners to a better future.

I love animals for themselves, particularly horses. For millions of people in the developing world, however, horses are beasts of burden, the difference between food and hunger, an income and penury and sometimes life and death. All too often this leads to them being overworked, suffering illnesses and injuries. The Brooke not only helps animals in need, but teaches that they deserve a good quality of life

In poorer countries if anything happens to a family’s working equine that family may not eat. By guarding the welfare of these horses, ponies and donkeys – such noble, loving creatures – the Brooke helps them and their owners too. This is a fantastic double whammy. This charity is truly extraordinary.

My sister Wendy and I saw the Brooke tending sick and injured working horses overseas. I’ll never forget the number of animals that came to them with horrifying open sores, caused by ill-fitting saddles. But my enduring memory is of the care given by the charity’s vets to such brave and faithful creatures – and their owners’ delight when they were made well again.

Wendy Turner Webster, TV presenter

I have the knowledge and means to give my horse the care he deserves, unlike many poor owners of working horses in developing countries. The Brooke cuts through poverty and any lack of awareness by training such people in good equine care, thus preventing many injuries and illnesses from ever happening at all.
