About Brooke

Patrons and Ambassadors

Sir Peter O'Sullevan CBE, Brooke Patron

Legendary BBC broadcaster and journalist Sir Peter O'Sullevan CBE was the ‘Voice of Racing’ for many years, commentating on all the great races during his career, including commentating on his own horse winning the Derby.

'The Voice of Racing' hung up his microphone in 1997, the same year he was knighted.

Upon his retirement Sir Peter O’Sullevan launched an annual award, given to someone who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the world of horseracing. The award and fundraising lunch were a great success and in 1999 the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust was founded. The Annual Lunch occurs each November and is the principle fundraiser for Sir Peter’s six beneficiary charities, of which the Brooke is one. To date over £1million has been distributed by the Trust.

Nigel Payne, Brooke Ambassador

Nigel Payne has been involved in the management, marketing and promotion of the horseracing industry for well over 30 years. Nigel has served on the boards of the International Racing Bureau and Satellite Information Services, and was the successful owner of the horse Earth Summit. In 2001 he was appointed to the board of the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Charitable Trust, which has distributed in excess of £1million for animal welfare causes, including the Brooke.

Nigel has become closely associated with the Brooke's work, visiting projects in Kenya and Egypt, and was instrumental in attracting the support of the British horseracing industry which culminated in Brooke's successful Courses for Horses fundraising campaign, started in 2005.

Emma Milne MRCVS, Brooke Ambassador

Emma Milne is one of the vets featured on the highly popular BBC programme Vets in Practice and continues to be involved with the media and work as a vet. Emma has been a dedicated supporter of the Brooke for some years, after seeing and admiring the hard work and professionalism of our Brooke vets and Community Animal Health Workers for herself in in Egypt.
