Sir Peter O'Sullevan, CBE
Legendary BBC broadcaster and journalist Sir Peter O'Sullevan, CBE, was the ‘Voice of Racing’ for many years, commentating on all the great races during his career, including commentating on his own horse winning the Derby.
'The Voice of Racing' hung up his microphone in 1997, the same year as he was knighted.
On retirement, Sir Peter launched an annual award, given to someone who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the world of horseracing.
The award and fundraising lunch were a great success and in 1999 the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust was founded. The annual lunch occurs each November and is the principle fundraiser for Sir Peter’s six beneficiary charities, of which the Brooke is one. To date over £3million has been distributed by the Trust.
