What to write in your Will

Wording for your solicitor to use
The following wording can be used to leave a legacy to the Brooke Hospital for Animals:

For a residuary legacy
“I give the whole of my estate (or x% of the residue of my estate) to the Brooke Hospital for Animals of Broadmead House, 21 Panton Street, London SW1Y 4DR Charity Registration No. 1085760 for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Legacy Manager or other proper officer of the Brooke Hospital for Animals shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”

For a pecuniary legacy
“I give the sum of £x to the Brooke Hospital for Animals of Broadmead House, 21 Panton Street, London SW1Y 4DR Charity Registration No. 1085760 for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Legacy Manager or other proper officer of the Brooke Hospital for Animals shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”

And if you want to make sure that the sum of money you’re leaving now will have the same relative value at the date of your death as it does now, you should include the following wording after the above:

“The amount of this legacy to Brooke Hospital for Animals shall be regarded as a provisional amount only and the amount payable shall be that provisional amount or if greater that provisional amount index linked to the retail prices index from the date of this Will to the date of my death.”

For a specific gift
“I give my (description of item, property or shares) to the Brooke Hospital for Animals of Broadmead House, 21 Panton Street, London SW1Y 4DR Charity Registration No. 1085760 for its general charitable purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Legacy Manager or other proper officer of the Brooke Hospital for Animals shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy.”
