Boris, the lovable Horsemart mascot, is entering the Mascot Grand National which takes place at Huntingdon Racecourse on Sunday 7th October.
By taking part in this great race Boris will be raising funds for the Brooke, the UK’s leading overseas equine welfare charity. This vitally important charity has the aim of improving the lives of horses, donkeys and mules working in the poorest parts of the world.
Borris will join loads of other mascots from football clubs, organisations and companies from across the UK.
Horsemart’s users and readers are being asked to sponsor Boris in the race and donate funds to The Brooke. They can do this by visiting www.thebrooke.org and clicking on ‘donate’. Then select ‘Horsemart Mascot Grand National’ in answer to the question “What prompted you to vote today?”.
The Mascot Grand National, now in its successful 9th year, takes place in front of thousands of punters who will watch this unique race before the real horses do the running in the rest of the race card.
The race is over one furlong (220 yards), on a straight course with six “hurdles”. The winner walks away with the trophy, plus there are other mysterious prizes for categories including ‘Best Turned Out’ (Boris could definitely win this) and ‘Ugliest Mascot’ (again it’s a possibility!).
Boris said: "I am very excited about the prospect of competing against other legendary mascots such as Gunnersaurus Rex, Stamford the Lion, Scoop the Sun Squirrel and my mate Hugo the Huntingdon Hound.
"My training involves lots of galloping, plus ensuring I eat the right foods - oats, hay and occasional sugar lumps."
