ITINERARY
Day One: Thursday 18th October Flight from the UK to Delhi.
Day Two: Friday 19th October Arrive in Delhi and transfer by coach to the hotel. Breakfast & lunch in the hotel. In the afternoon we will have a guided tour of Delhi and in the evening we transfer to New Delhi railway station for our overnight train to Rani (near Ranakpur).
Day Three: Saturday 20th October Arrive Rani and transfer to Ranakpur (approx. 50 kms / 1 ½ hrs) by local jeeps. Arrive and check into hotel. After lunch we will check the horses and have the opportunity to have a short introductory ride. Ranakpur is the site of the biggest and most important Jain temple in India. Time permitting we may be able to visit the temples which are ornately carved out of marble, which is abundant in this region. In Indian terms this is a very affluent area and many Indians use the locality for resort holidays. We stay overnight at Maharani Bagh under the back drop of the Aravali Mountain range.
Day Four: Sunday 21st October After an early breakfast we set off to Chakshujapura stopping by a lake for lunch. Depending on the previous year’s monsoon rains the lake will either be full or empty. We will stay overnight in tents. Our camp is at the home of the owner of the horses, who is a well respected breeder and jockey.
Day Five: Monday 22nd October We ride to Bagha Ka Bagh, an old hunting lodge, set in a beautiful wildlife sanctuary, where we will stay overnight. From here we can take an evening stroll to look at a 600 year old Jain temple and visit a local tribal village or go for an evening ride.
Day Six: Tuesday 23rd October We ride through the beautiful scenery of riverbeds and local villages on route to Rawla Narlai – a bustling and colourful town nestled under a large rock formation, which features a temple and statue of an elephant. We stay overnight in Rawla Narlai.
Day Seven: Wednesday 24th October We continue our ride to Ghanerao a 400 year old castle – a palatial old building with stabling facilities for the horses based in the courtyard. From the roof of the castle we can view much of the route that we have taken with the Aravali Mountains and Kumbalgargh Fort in the background. We will stay here overnight.
Day Eight: Thursday 25th October Our last day’s ride takes us uphill through the wildlife sanctuary and forest to Kumbalgarh – this is the site of one of the largest forts in Rajasthan and resembles many features of the Great Wall of China. Here we say farewell to our horses. We stay overnight in Kumbalgarh Fort Hotel.
Day Nine: Friday 26th October After an early breakfast we drive to the Romantic Lake city of Udaipur approx. 3hrs drive. We take an afternoon flight back to Delhi. The evening will be free for shopping and exploring! We stay overnight in a Delhi hotel.
Day Ten: Saturday 27th October We will spend the majority of the day with Brooke vets, seeing the vital work they do. We will also visit the brick kilns on the outskirts of Delhi. We will have a farewell dinner and then transfer to Delhi airport for our return flight to the UK.
Day Eleven: Sunday 28th October Arrive in the UK.
Approximate distances covered each day 25-28kms. Moderately challenging.
This itinerary is complex and may be subject to change.
